Four years ago, the owners of The Bellevue Resort Bohol asked me to be involved in the management of their 1800 m2 greenhouse. The vegetables and culinary herbs are for the consumption at the hotel restaurant.
In these four years I’ve done a lot of research on organic farming and gardening, and since the ground is rocky and hard here in Doljo, Panglao, I had to come up with solutions for the soil. The initial plan was to elevate the plants in pots on shelves, such as other hotels on Panglao that grow their own veggies, do. But we opted against it and started producing our own soil with shredded coconut coir, dried leaves and chicken or goat manure. We add Bio Solution, a kind of effective microorganisms, to the mixture, and voila, it proves to be a healthy, nutrient-rich soil, and the vegetable grow healthy, strong and most importantly, delicious! Another important point is that in order to use coconut husk, we have to shred it, but there aren’t any affordable shredders around, so I had to invent and build my own. On the “Shredder-Page” you will find the different types of shredders I have built so far, and what are their specs. If you are interested, you can get one from me for an affordable price!
